The shiny light green leaves have a darker green border and strips resembling zebra stripes. This plant adds an excellent pop of green for homes and offices. The Calathea Freddie flowers are white in color which blooms on a long stalk like inflorescence that grows from the centre of the plant base.

• Place me in a room that is bathed with natural light. Rotate me occasionally to encourage even growth.
• I flourish in indirect light, though I love the warmth of the morning sunlight. The harsher afternoon sun, harms me.
• Allow my top soil to dry between watering. Rain water or filtered water is better than hard tap water that contains chlorine or salts.
• An occasional misting and wipe down of my leaves, keeps them shiny and healthy.
• I do well in warm temperatures with high humidity levels.
• Re-pot once a year using a good potting mix with excellent drainage.
• I am a friendly plant, considered non-toxic to humans, cats and dogs.

   Prevention is the key to eliminating disease, so avoid over-watering and ensure roots don’t stay soggy.

   A general houseplant fertilizer with iron, applied once a month in spring and summer, is sufficient for my growing needs. In winter, growth slows so avoid use of fertilizer.
